XIV CONGRESS OF THE ITALIAN SOCIETY OF PLANT BIOLOGY

HOW TO REACH PALERMO FROM PMO AIRPORT

By bus: a shuttle bus (Prestia e Comandè company) connects the airport to the city central train station. The first bus leaves the airport at 5:05 and the last one at 01:05 (ticket € 6.50). If you are staying at hotels in in the area Politeama – Massimo you can get off at the stop “Politeama” If you are staying at hotels in in the area Via Vittorio Emanuele - Quattro Canti - Cattedrale you can get off at the stop “Via Roma 265 – Vucciria”.

By train: trains connect the airport to Palermo Central Station. The Airport station is below the terminal. The first train leaves the airport at 5:18 and the last one at 00:25 (ticket € 6.80). If you are staying at hotels in the area Politeama – Massimo you can get off at the stop “Palermo Lolli”, it is about 10 minutes on foot from Politeama Theatre. If you are staying at hotels in the area Via Vittorio Emanuele - Quattro Canti – Piazza Marina, it is about 15 minutes on foot from the Central Station.
By taxi: at the Arrivals exit you can find taxi service to the city for € 45-50 (2 companies, Trinacria or Autoradio taxi). There is also a taxi-sharing service for at least 4 passengers (€ 10 per person).

CITY PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Metro Regional train company: Trenitalia. Single Ticket € 2.00, one ride validity.
Bus company: AMAT. Single ticket € 1.40, 90-minute validity; daily ticket € 3.50. Keep in mind that buses are not always on time due to heavy traffic.

HOW TO REACH THE CONGRESS VENUE
From hotels in the area Politeama – Massimo you can take the Metro Regional train at the stop “Palermo Lolli” towards “Palermo Centrale” and get off at the stop “Palermo Palazzo Reale-Orleans” (3 min ride, trains every 20-30 minutes) next to one of the entrances to the viale delle Scienze Campus. The bus 104 or 108 connect the Politeama area (via Dante) to viale delle Scienze (20-30 minute ride).
From hotels in the area Via Vittorio Emanuele - Quattro Canti - Cattedrale, it is about a 15-20 minute walk to the closest entrance to the viale delle Scienze Campus.
From Hotels in the Central Station – Piazza Marina area you can take the Metro Regional train at the stop “Palermo Centrale” towards “Aeroporto” and get off at the stop “Palermo Palazzo Reale-Orleans” (9 min ride, trains every 30 minutes) next to one of the entrances to the viale delle Scienze Campus, or it is about a 30-minute walk.
WEATHER
The weather in Palermo in September is usually warm during the day (26-29 °C) and cooler in the evening (24-26 °C). Rainstorms may occur occasionally in this season.
Dress in layers, bring an umbrella and wear comfortable shoes! We will visit the Botanical Garden (about 1 hr to tour the garden + ½ hr to go from the congress venue to the garden)
