SIBV/TOMRES Summer School 2020_Stress resilience in plants: from molecules to field

From 8 to 10 September 2020

Exploring new strategies to help plants facing abiotic and biotic stresses is nowadays becoming even more crucial. Therefore the main aim of the SIBV/TOMRES Summer school was to improve students and young scientists knowledge and expertise on this important topic, through lectures, workshops and discussions.

The Summer School was jointly organized by SIBV and the H2020 project TOMRES (A novel and integrated approach to increase multiple and combined stress tolerance in plants using tomato as a model) and was held online from 8 to 10 September 2020.

The Summer School Organizing Committee was composed of Prof. Andrea Schubert (TOMRES Coordinator), Prof. Pierdomenico Perata (SIBV President), Prof. Chiara Pucciariello (SIBV Secretary), Prof. Francesca Secchi; Prof Andrea Pompa and four PhD students and Post-Doc researchers (Chiara Agliassa; Sara Colanero; Carla Gualtieri; Cristina Morabito).

Twenty-two students, and 10 senior speakers participated to the Summer School. All students presented their ongoing research work, and two were selected for the SIBV-supported Best Talk Awards. Chairing of the sessions was performed by students. The programme was completed by two workshops and several networking and socializing activities involving both young and senior scientists.

Students expressed their satisfaction in a dedicated survey, and so we look forward to meet them again next year!
